Our first Chessie from Loura was the most wonderful dog ever, phenomenal temperament. She was still on the Eastern shore and had a wonderful facility, fed them well and provided solid care. Unfortunately, circumstances changed for Loura and the Elkton location was not set up for humane living conditions for breeding as she has done before. Our second purchase from Loura was a completely different experience and the health and temperament of the second purchase from Loura was the opposite of the first one. He is still impacted, after years of proper care, love, exercise, good nutrition and training, from his initial living circumstances with Loura. Our conflict is our first Chessie from Loura was the best ever so weve wanted to extend her credit for so many wonderful years with him for giving him a great start but by the same token, its been the Polar opposite with our current Chessie, the imprint from being left out, exposed to poor conditions, poor food quality and lack of veterinary care impacted him severely. Though we were able to improve his health, give him lots of love, comfort, safety and training, he still has challenges stemming from those early months being left outside in extreme weather, near a grill or smoker we presume as he still freaks out when even bacon is on the stove, from poor quality food (first pup she prescribed high end food and supplements, second pup, oh Walmart is fine). The difference in their health, their coats, and their temperament (calm and responsive vs nervous, jumpy, overly anxious) is clear. We understand people have life changes, but the breeding standard changed so noticeably and dramatically with Loura, its not just unfortunate for her, it impacts these dogs and people/families who buy or adopt them.

Our female Chesapeake bay retriever DOB 09/25/2020 just got diagnosed with hip dysplasia at the shy age of 3 years old! Despite the terrible living conditions of being kept in a nasty basement we decide to get our sweet girl because we had made a 16 hour drive for her. But getting this diagnosis so early in life is the straw that broke the camels back! Laura Quinn/Loura Waid should be ashamed that she continues to breed with the hereditary issues!
